Wow, standing atop one the highest points of the Greek island of Santorini lives amazing history, and I discovered it while staying overnight at a hotel at it's base awaiting a ship!
The Ancient Ruins of Thira date back to the 8th Century BC, and inlcude primarilly Hellenistic ruins, but also Byzantine and Roman ruins as well.
As I stood there, I could feel a vibe that only comes from a deep historically significant place. In fact, the oldest I have ever explored. I was amazed also at the deep respect of this place, as sightseers are almost completely free to explore ruins almost three thousand years old.
The stones upon which I balanced this carefully chosen rock may be part of a once much greater task, but are more than likely simply stones removed during excavation.
I could not help but feel small and insignificant as I balanced a stone which has seen countless wars, weather of all kinds, been burned, trampled upon, tossed, tumbled and then left alone. Imaagine the stories witnessed.
When I got back to the bottom an almost half hour hike (it took three times that to get up) I could faintly see that my moment in this amazing history still stood, (this is the rule of all balance, it must stand until you are long gone).
This may one of my favorite most respected places.

Del Ray Beach, Florida

What was and is especially remarkable about this place is the wealth of igneous rock, or at least to my limited expreience in Geology , what appears to be volcanic igneous rock.
It is hard, pitted and carved out by millions of years of erosion and offers fodder for the easily distracted and curious.
What I loved about this place, is that although I have seen prettier beaches, this particular frame was amazing, so I had to capture it.
The double! And it didn't move until, I assume, long after I was gone.
